about us...

In 1994, two of the Koning brothers realized the potential of jumping in on the trend of dried floral décor and decided to start their own business.  Working from a small barn near Waterdown, Ontario, in Canada the aptly named company, Second Nature, was established in 1994.  Purchasing a small truck that was converted into a mobile show room, Steve Koning made his way around Ontario, regularly visiting florists, garden centres and craft stores. As relationships were formed the business grew. Before long Second Nature began attending trade shows, distributing printed catalogues and saw a need to hire more sales representatives.

After 4 short years they purchased the current location, a 40-acre property in Rockton, Ontario. A much needed larger, new facility was built. Don Koning turned his focus on using the land to grow fresh ornamental branches, such as Dogwood and Pussy Willow to offer customers. Soon, Second Nature had a name among customers across Canada and eventually, North America and Europe growing the business significantly. Now, Second Nature provides many major grocery stores, home décor chains, garden centres and florists with a wide variety of unique, high quality, customizable products along with dependable service.

In 2023 Banyan Capital Partners acquired Second Nature and is excited to see this investment grow the company even more as they work in partnership with the Second Nature team.

Today, Second Nature partners with farmers and manufacturers in global communities to import dried florals and other naturally and sustainably sourced botanicals which we use to design bouquets and bowl filler collections as well as continuing to offer bunches and picks.  As dried home décor continues to grow in popularity and fashion, we continually look for ways to keep our customers supplied with current trends and classic style.

We look forward to an exciting future together as we grow!
